It sure has been a while since I have had a chance to sit down and write about my summer! So many things have happened since I have arrived in Morgan County, TN. I don't even know where to begin...

Set-up week was a success, unlike most centers around ASPland, we had a double set-up week! We began looking for homes the second day we arrived and continued until the day before volunteers arrived. Although we had two weeks, it was still busy and full of tasks to complete. We worked hard to set up our center, review applications, look at potential projects, build relationships within the community, contact volunteers, and in there we had some fun too. If there is one thing that I learned durring set-up week it is that the community is behind us 100%! Everyone who we have met has been more than accommodating and truly great. Ice cream shops have changed their closing times so our volunteers could get a cold treat after our evening gathering, we have handed out many blank applications to local businesses to share with those in need, and members of the community are always waving to us when we drive through town. It is a great feeling to have the community behind the work we are doing in the area. Also durring set-up week, we had a chance to do a little exploring to see some of the local areas. We stumbled across a beautiful waterfall and hiked the trail next to it, explored the trails of the local state and national parks and I had the chance to wet a line and do a little fishing. It was great to fish some of these mountain streams for trout. We also had the chance to meet up with the Scott County staff, our neighbors, and venture to our construction consultant's house for a lovely home-cooked meal. Lee and his wife, Dorothy, were very inviting and welcomed us into their home and property for a meal and some exploring. Their home sits on a beautiful 500 acres of property and they allowed us to explore the trails via ATV and Jeep as well as do some fishing on the private pond.

After set-up week we began the summer of volunteers and it has been great. We are currently working with 10 incredible families for home repair and living and growing through their unique stories. We have a variety of projects from roofs to wheelchair ramps and everything in between. Our volunteers have been from all over the United States and we love each and every one of them for our own reasons. They have been accomplishing so much on the homes of our wonderful families and their work looks great! We are well on our way to making homes warmer, safer, and drier.

Peace,

Ben
